If the volume information is insufficient, you can compare two surfaces to each other (two point clouds or meshes together, one point cloud with a mesh, or one point cloud/with a mesh of a model), and generate an inspection plot. Since the metric information is still in the inspection plot, you can extract metrics such as surfaces, volumes, points, drawings (such as polylines, sections, displacements, colored meshes, etc.). You can match contours (2D curves, sections, polylines, etc.) at specific points and given directions in a 3D scene;
You can easily extract contours along curbs, sidewalks, railway lines, rock cuttings, natural features, etc., or fit a set of points with geometric shapes, which can be planes, spherical or cylindrical shapes.
